Presentation
The Municipality of Miraflores (Lima, Peru) is the venue for the 5th edition of the City and Values Forum on 7 September 2010 in an intensive one-day event. It is to be held in the City Council Assembly Hall. The Forum’s core value is “Citizen co-existence in public places”.
The Forum is organised by the Mayor’s Office of the Municipality of Miraflores and Bilbao Metropoli-30, and with the collaboration of the Basque Government’s External Affairs department and Innobasque, the Basque Innovation Agency.
The agreement between the Municipality of Miraflores and Bilbao Metropoli-30 was signed in the City Council’s Assembly Hall on 5 February. The act was presided over by Miraflores Mayor, Dr. Manuel Masías Oyanguren. Also present were representatives of the Basque Government’s External Affairs department, as a witness of honour and Innobasque, the Basque Innovation Agency, as collaborating institution.
The Forum is targeted at holders of public office and private sector personnel working in local and metropolitan development, and at management staff at both local level and the social and economic area as a whole. The idea is to make both public and private sector players aware that urban development must be based on improvements in values and changes in behaviour as well as on essential improvements in infrastructures and services. A number of values which are key for the future development of Bogotá but also applicable elsewhere will be identified and disseminated, based on an awareness of the history and present situation of the city and the need for synergies with the process of infrastructure development..
The Association first organised the City & Values Forum in Bilbao in 2006, with its purpose being to consolidate a value-based strategy for the development of cities, and it has established itself in several Latin American cities. Forums have thus been held in 2007 in Valparaíso (Chile), in 2008 in Cuernavaca (Mexico) and in 2009 in Bogota (Colombia), and the next ones are scheduled for 2011 in Montevideo (Uruguay) and 2012 in Rosario (Argentina).
